Where The Wild Things Are

Post by mateostarr »

Finally saw this today and was disappointed. I had high expectations based on the trailer and with Spike Jonze directing but I was never connected to this story. Catherine Keener has surprisingly little screen time and why did they cast Mark Ruffalo as an extra? The spent way too little time on Max and his family and the ending was very abrupt.

Well, the movie is really about Max and the wild things, how much time did you want them to spend setting up Max's "escape" to Where The Wild Things Are?

I loved this movie, it is currently my 2nd favorite movie of this year, right behind Star Trek.

i know it won't happen, but i was kinda hoping that THIS would finally be the movie where everybody realized that Spike Jonze is a talentless HACK.

Oh well... One day, maybe.

If you want talentless hack, look no further than Alfonso Cuaron.

Wow. We can get into this if you're up for it--but, I daresay that, Children of Men easily eclipses Spike Jonze's ENTIRE EFFING FILMOGRAPHY.

Where the Wild Things Are or

The biggest disappointment since Revenge of the Fallen. Potential for greatness, nothing but disappointment.

Spike Jonze is not a talentless hack. Being John Malkovich is very good and Adaptation is one of the best of the decade.

And I agree Cuaron has directed one excellent movie and that's it but I think he has the potential for another one.

i'd argue about this--but i think this is an example of Boosh-Brand Logic that has no inherent structure and only makes sense to you...

Don't really understand that allusion, Buscemi.

And for me, Spike Jonze peaked with Weezer's "Buddy Holly" video.

And I may be in the minority, but I found Being John Malkovich to be a pile or steaming, pretentious CRAP.

28 Days Later = British post-apocalyptic movie where mankind is trying to survive. Low-budget and very entertaining.

Children Of Men = British post-apocalyptic movie where mankind is trying to survive. High-budget and very dull.

In short: Danny Boyle is a great director.

I don't see how anyone can think Spike Jonze is talentless, Being John Malkovich is a clear testament against that statement.

I didn't like Adaptation, but with BJM and Where The Wild Things Are, he's easily one of the Top 10 directors working right now.

Boosh, do you also compare Back to the Future Part III to The Wild Bunch?

Stripes with Paths of Glory?

The Wild Bunch = gritty western about a team of outlaws in Mexico.
Back To The Future Part III = fun sci-fi western about two people from the future in California.

Different movies.

Stripes = two men go to Army training in Kentucky to keep the nation safe...and meet girls.
Paths Of Glory = Kirk Douglas goes to war in World War I-era Europe

Different movies.

I'm pretty sure there are no zombies in Children of Men.. so.. different movies.
